The Big Four

The Boston Celtics weren’t able to sweep the Orlando Magic, but they got the job done in 6 games. Boston sent the Magic home packing to advance to the 2010 NBA Finals last night, winning 96 to 84. Boston is now looking for their 2nd championship in three years as they came up short when Orlando eliminated them in the 2nd round last year.
Everything is going well for the Celtics, who may be even better than the 2008 NBA Champion Boston Celtic team due to the growth and emergence of their newest superstar, Rajon Rondo. Rondo played much better in Game 6 despite taking a hard fall when going to the basket. In order for the Celtics to beat either LA/Phoenix in the NBA Finals, they will need him to play as the Rondo we’ve seen throughout these playoffs. It’s debatable whether Rondo is the best player on the Celtics, but we all understand that he runs the show with slowing the tempo down when it gets out of hand and creating many shots for players with his superb passes. I no longer refer to “Big Three”, but the “Big Four” or what I like to call the Four Tops because how they’re in sync and harmony like a good record, which the Four Tops were notorious for. Some of you young people may not know anything about them, but they produced “real” music.
On another note before I get sidetracked, another key for the Celtics to accomplish their goal of becoming the 2010 NBA Champions is for the BIG 3 to step up. Paul Pierce looks like him old self leading the Celtics with 31 points in game 6 and has been pretty consistent lately. Kevin Garnett also has to play both sides of the ball as everyone knows he’s a force to reckon with on both offense and defense. Last but not least, Ray Allen a.k.a Jesus Shuttlesworth must be lights out from beyond the arc. He barely needs and any room to shoot and can single handily frustrate defenses.
Tip off for the NBA championship is June 3rd at 9 p.m. on ABC and Celtics have been waiting for this moment ever since the beginning of the season. Throughout these playoffs they’ve proved their doubters wrong when beating the 2010 MVP, Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers and of course, the so unstoppable or thought to be Orlando Magic. Whether the Lakers or Suns come out the Western Conference, the Celtics will be prepared for either one with that one goal in mind of becoming the 2010 NBA CHAMPIONS!

  1. Name a lock down defender who demanded respect on the Magic besides Dwight Howard? I cannot name anyone. Vince Carter did his best with Pierce, Allen had free range, Rondo and Nelson was a decent matchup but Rondo is a top 5 PG so not really.
Okay with that said. The Celtics never in the whole series versus Orlando scored over 100 points... And now they are playing the Lakers. I can easily name 5 lock down defenders in order of ability: Artest, Kobe, Gasol, Odom, Bynum (since he is not 100% healthy). The Big Three like Detroit auto will suffer, with the exception of Ford (the Ford in this case will be Allen) He will get room, but Kobe will not allow his team's D to slack like the Magic who gave up. Gasol on K.G., Gasol is better. Kobe and Artest will take Rondo/Pierce (not sure who on who) but they will be challenged every possession when they are in. Artest for Ariza and no Radmanovic for the Lakers make them a much better team this time around compared to '08. Celtics don't have P.J. Brown and he was a big factor in them winning, and Sheed is a handicap not a plus.

The Cavs were a disappointment. The Celtics beat the Cavs cause Delonte West was fucking Lebron's mother and cause Shaq was put in to much at 38 years old.

Lakers will win in 6 or 7.

  2. Some good points were definitely mentioned, but I would disagree with others.

    1. Correct. The Magic don't have any lock down defenders besides Howard, but they're not known for defense. They're known for out shooting teams from beyond the arc and they were favored and predicted to go to the Finals due to their performance before the Conference Championship and regular season. I don't know why? No disrespect, they played Charlotte and Atlanta, but they're way better than both teams, but Atlanta gave them more credibility when they decided not to show up at all the series.

    2. The Celtics don't need to score 100 to win games. They never were a high scoring team that is always in the 100's like Phoenix. They win games, which is all that matters. I could see if they were scoring in the 80's, but they're scoring in the 90's and they're clearly capable of scoring in triple digits as they did against Cleveland. The main reason the Lakers were scoring 100+ every games is because they played the Suns= No defense.

    3. This series will be pretty interesting and I'm excited to see what Game 1's result will be. I agree with you w/o a doubt that the match-ups favor the Lakers, but not by a wide margin. Gasol and K.G. matchup is a tossup and Pierce will get his. Rondo is the only one im not sure about because the Lakers are big and much better defensively than past opponents.

    4. Not that many would know how important PJ was for them in 2008, so I give you credit for that. Don't forget about Leon Powe as well. With that being said, I think that Big Baby has improved so much since '08. He's surpassed the title as role player and is a key to them winning their championship. Sheed is old, but doesn't mean he can't light it up like he used too even though we seen no signs of it besides that 21 point game vs. the Magic. I'm not saying he's going to come out the blue sky averaging 15 pts in the Finals, but I see him having a big game or 2 vs. the Lakers.

    5. Haha to the Lebron statement.

  3. Good response all around.
I'm a big NBA fan, shit I remember P.J. Brown and Elden Campbell on the Charlotte Hornets lol. (Forgot about Leon Powe though)

We disagree about Sheed being able to do anything lol, he bricks to much. If he just stuck to defense he wouldn't be a weakness but on offense he is embarrassing, which is fine by me cause I am going for L.A. Lakers will not be having his 3 ball or his whatever the heck it is he calls a jumpshot. He isn't on Detroit anymore.
If the Lakers contain Rondo, they will win. No one really has so far, Rondo is the best guy on the Celtics in my opinion, when he develops a jump shot he will be absolutely deadly, he is already a top 5 point guard. my ranks:
    (CP3,D-Will, Nash, Rondo, D-Rose)

And the Magic were SO hyped up, I still thought they would beat Boston though, I viewed it as unless it was the Cavs vs. Lakers in the Finals it would be a Laker repeat. I stand by that still, though Boston has completely outdone my expectations for them. No way this series will be over by 5.

LOL, King James is leaving Akron Country if that stuff is true. And Shaq should not be playing over 20 minutes a game when you had Jamison/Big Z/Varejao/Hickson.

Good blog Justin, lots of NBA knowledge
